Setup: from unboxing to first tap
A short checklist for the first few minutes with a new Tapping Tags card, tag, or stand.
Every Tapping Tags card, tag, and stand ships pre-configured with the business details you provided, so there is no app to download and no account to create before the first tap. This page covers what you can check yourself, and is honest about the one step - changing the destination later - that this page does not cover, because we have not verified it first-hand.
What is in the box
- The card, adhesive tag, or acrylic stand you ordered, printed with an NFC tap point and a QR code.
- No battery and no separate reader are needed; the product is entirely passive.
- No subscription and no app for the customer to use it.
Before you put it out: a four-step check
These are the steps we can confirm directly, using nothing but a phone:
- Inspect it. Confirm the product matches your order and is free of visible damage.
- Test the tap. With NFC turned on, hold a phone near the marked area and confirm the correct page opens.
- Test the scan. Open the camera app, point it at the printed QR code, and confirm the same page opens.
- Place it. Put it where a customer will naturally have it in hand or in clear view at the point a visit or purchase is wrapping up. See the use-case guides for placement ideas by business type.
What we cannot walk you through here
If you ever need the destination link changed, our product pages and FAQ describe the product as designed so that destination can be configured, and point you to the setup instructions supplied with your order. We have not independently verified a self-service way to change it after delivery, so we are not going to describe one here. If you need a change, use the process in your printed instructions, or contact us directly for help.
Finding your own Google review link
This is the step most businesses get stuck on, and it has nothing to do with Tapping Tags specifically - it is how Google Business Profile works. Two common ways to get your own link:
- From Google Business Profile: sign in to your Business Profile, look for the option to get more reviews or share a review form, and Google will generate a shareable link for your listing.
- From Google Maps or Search: search for your business name, open your listing, and use the share option on your listing card. On many listings this produces a direct link to the review box.
Test any link you generate in a private or incognito browser tab before you give it to us to configure, so you know it opens your review box and not a generic search result.
Asking customers the policy-safe way
Once the card is live, how you ask matters. Google's guidelines permit sharing your own review link or a QR code, and prohibit offering incentives for reviews, asking only customers you expect to leave a good review, or asking anyone to remove or change what they wrote. Offer the card or the scan to every eligible customer the same way, and let them decide whether to respond.
